The Sea Urchin pamphlet The Fifth Day is a passage lifted from Edgar Allan Poe’s tale Manuscript Found in a Bottle. The tale was first published in 1833 after it had won an award of $50 in a contest organised by the Baltimore Saturday Visiter. American photographer, poet and publisher Ira Cohen was born to deaf parents in the Bronx in 1935. After having dropped out of Cornell University, having married and having had two children with his wife Arlene Bond, Cohen sailed to Tangier in 1961, where he stayed for four years.
