A high octane abstract speed metal inspired hip hop album by THE RAMMELLZEE. Nearly a decade since his passing, the works of infamous graffiti artist, sculptor, rapper, and self-described “gothic futurist” Rammellzee continue to push the boundaries of visual art, music and metaphysical thought. Recorded mostly in 2006 and 2007 with producer/composer Jonah “Th’ Mole” Mociun, the album Cosmic Flush is finally being released in full for the first time, courtesy of Holland-based label Hecticrecs… Rammellzee died in 2010, shortly after the album’s completion, halting any plans for a release. Now, about a decade later, after some partial leaks and unmastered 12-inch singles, the album is finally here in full form.
(from the label’s accompanying text)
Rammellzee (1960-2010) was a hip-hop, performance and graffiti artist from New York. He rose to fame in the early 1980s through his friendship with Jean-Michel Basquiat and appearances in Charlie Ahearn’s film Wild Style and Jim Jarmush’s Stranger than Paradise. Initially a Gothic Futurism and Ikonoclast Panzerism graffiti artist, his work expanded across various media and artistic disciplines in the following decades: music, painting, costume design, sculpture and art theory. Besides Basquiat and Jarmush, Rammellzee worked with Bill Laswell, William Burroughs and various established galleries and art institutes. Rammellzee died in New York at the age of 49, his health badly damaged by exposure to the toxic substances that he used in his works.
